ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES

Not only sports profiles have the possibility of a scholarship.
The American university system provides great opportunities for good academic profiles.

WHAT TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS ARE THERE FOR STUDENTS?

There are three types of scholarships for students or scholars: International Scholarships, Academic Scholarships and Need-Based Scholarships.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Aimed at students with medium and medium-high academic profiles, with the hope of attracting international students. They are awarded based on three quantitative requirements (GPA, SAT and TOEFL):

  • GPA: above 6 - 6.5
  • SAT: above 950/1600
  • TOEFL: above 65/120

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Aimed at high-level and outstanding academic profiles. They are awarded based on three quantitative requirements (GPA, SAT and TOEFL) and the qualitative and skills value of each profile:

  • GPA: above 8.5
  • SAT: above 1250/1600
  • TOEFL: above 80/120

NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

These types of scholarships are aimed at very bright students with few financial resources. They are usually offered by prestigious universities (Harvard, Yale, MIT, etc.). ADMISSION is the biggest challenge in these universities, since the academic and skills requirements are extremely high:

  • GPA: above 9-9.5
  • SAT: above 1450/1600
  • TOEFL: above 100/120

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS IN AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES

These can cover 50-60% of the total cost of the University.

The average grade (or GPA) for the last four school years will be required at different points throughout the process, firstly to achieve sports eligibility as a student with the relevant sports body (NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA), and, secondly to apply for academic admission in the student's target universities.

There are two Standard Tests accepted by US universities to assess the academic abilities of students: SAT and ACT. At W2A Management we believe SAT is a better option than ACT, given the type of exam and because it is the most widely accepted test in the US. This, along with the baccalaureate, is the main academic requirement. The SAT score is key to having more, better opportunities both for admission and for academic and international scholarships.

English language ability is a requirement for all non-native sport students. The best way to demonstrate this level is through the TOEFL exam, although some universities may accept other options such as IELTS or SAT Critical Reading score. However, English level is not required for sports eligibility.
