SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS IN AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES

Aimed at high-level sports profiles, not necessarily elite level. The academic admission requirements of each university must be met, in addition to the required sports level.

GPA

Average academic grade

  • An average of at least 5 is required.
  • Grades for the last 4 years
  • The GPA can affect the size of the academic scholarship to complete the sports scholarship.

SAT

Entrance exam for American universities

  • The required grade depends on the GPA
  • In general, the minimum is 850-900
  • The exam can be resat in order to improve the grade
  • It consists of a math part and a reading comprehension part

TOEFL

The TOEFL exam is required to demonstrate English language ability

  • The grade must be above at least 61
  • The exam can be resat in order to improve the grade
  • It consists of four parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking
  • Some international scholarships are awarded according to the TOEFL mark

NCAA

Made up of over 1100 academic institutions, all of them 4-year college-undergraduates, grouped into three divisions. DIV I, II, and III.

Three divisions and more than 1100 universities.

  • NCAA I: More than 340 universities, representing 49 US States. These are medium and large universities with high budgets for scholarships, which results in a very high competitive level in all sports..
  • NCAA II:Made up of 315 universities from 44 US States, together with the Canadian province of British Columbia. In general, these are small or medium-sized universities, and in many cases rural. They have a budget for sports scholarships, although this is lower than for DIV I. The required sports level is high.
  • NCAA III: 450 Universities with a much more academic than sporting profile do not have a budget for sports scholarships, although sport is a differential value for access to other types of financial aid. Medium-high competition level.

NAIA

More than 250 4-year universities. Its sporting level is similar to NCAA DIV II.

  • NAIA I & II: 250 Universities, divided into two divisions. The vast majority are small or medium-sized universities, with some academic specialization. They have a budget for sports scholarships. The sports level is high, although slightly lower than NCAA II.

NCAA

More than 620 2-year Junior Colleges, divided into two associations. The sports level varies enormously.

  • NJCAA: More than 500 universities, grouped into three divisions. DIV I and II have a budget for sports scholarships, with varying competition levels. DIV III does not have a budget for sports scholarships. The sports level is medium-high.
  • CCCAA: Association that groups together more than 100 Junior Colleges in the State of California. They do not have a budget for sports scholarships. The sports level is medium-high.
